Modern Software Engineering: Doing What Works to Build Better Software Faster
I do not remember how this book got in my reading list, but I am happy that it did. I would not say that it is eye-opening, but rather systematizing a many things in a connected story, refreshing some of the theoretical knowledge and was thought provoking. I found myself arguing with author in my mind on a few points that contradicted my experience, but understood his take on a number of things. The general concept of engineering, quick feedback loops and building software for change resonated a lot with my views on engineering. On the other hand, author was a bit pushy on a techniques that he seems crucial, and in many cases he only briefly mentioned that tradeoffs or pitfalls, and in some ignored those completely which spoiled the impression from the book (along with too much repetition on some points). You would not find the exact blueprints how to solve your daily tasks, but rather find the overall direction on where to move to write a better software faster. However, please take all points there with a grain of salt and really try to measure the impacts when you do try to use those.
